so i thought i'll just change the 空秋千 to something more patriotic...

ok.. i agree that theme songs nowadays are getting less memorable and more random.
im my opinion, these songs should be a little bit emotional, so that singaporeans who sing the song can express their love for the country.
in addition, the song MUST feature facts that apply to everyone so that each and every citizen can sing along. it's quite funny if im asked to sing this song. this is because:

1. I've walked the streets of Cairo & Bombay
   i've NEVER went to cairo nor bombay.
   
2. I've seen the neon signs on old Broadway
   i've NEVER seen the new broadway, let alone the old one, not even on TV.
   
3. I've climbed the Eiffel Tower, The Great Wall in one hour
   ok.. can anyone do this...? climbing the tower and zooming to the wall in one hour?

well.. i won't dig into Hollywood, the sunsets in LA, The London Bridge, Big Ben, The Thames, UK and River Kwai; because the furthest i travelled was the pearl tower in china.

i mean, it's quite crazy to be singing that you have been all around the world for more than half of the song and yet, you haven't been there before. more ironically, this is supposed to be a national day song. something about SINGAPORE. let's look at the extract below:

of course, Singapore is my home, and i know i must be here.
and yes, i always daydream, hence my dreams will wait for me.. xD
the kallang river, let alone the singapore river will always flow.. (correct me if i'm wrong)
again, SURELY, this is my home and my five senses will definitely tell me.
with a population of 3,263,200 distinct citizens, i will always know i'm home.

national day songs must be some sort of '废话' song, like the above. although sang in 1998, HOME will always be in my mind; unlike the THERE'S NO PLACE I'D RATHER BE, although sang by the same singer. i will never sing the song, actually.

and also, it should be some kind of sad song, which will not cause people to be high. although THERE'S NO PLACE I'D RATHER BE is good in this aspect, but it's good brother, WILL YOU, totally failed.

i mean, will you want to sing a song which keep posing questions, as if demanding something from someone? just count the '?'s in the song!

and the people singing it.. so many! and there's a girl who went drags the word 'FEEL' (as shown above) at such a high-pitched voice. who will, or have the ability, to sing the national day song, which is meant for the singaporeans to sing along?

hope this honest opinion of the national day theme songs won't affect my chances of presidency in the future! =X
